Al-Saadi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the rise of the dollar in the parallel market in recent weeks has caused concern in the markets, but from what we see, it has not directly affected the price compass for basic materials, whether vegetables, fruits, or other foodstuffs, so the possibility of prices rising with... "The elections may happen soon, but to a very limited extent."
He added, "The Sudanese government has already developed a strategy to contain prices due to the dollar fever in the parallel market by pumping more foodstuffs into the markets at competitive prices, accompanied by improving the ration card items," stressing that "there is exaggeration created by three parties regarding the rise of the dollar, most notably the merchants who are trying to Exploiting any opportunity to raise prices to reap more profits without caring about what they are doing at the expense of the simple people.”
He pointed out that "the rise of the dollar in the parallel market is primarily linked to speculation and rumours, and whether the price compass rises or falls, it will remain within a flexible range with increased government support, which will inevitably take immediate decisions to confront any price crisis, but in general the situation is under control."
The Iraqi government confirms that the rise in exchange rates has not affected the prices of basic commodities and food for several reasons, the first of which is that merchants and importers of these commodities obtain dollars to import them from the Central Bank officially, that is, at the official exchange rate, in addition to the government opening centers to sell foodstuffs at prices It makes a small profit, which makes it 30% less expensive than the prices of the same goods in the markets, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
