Parliamentary state law spokesman Aqeel Al-Fatlawi confirmed, on Wednesday, the continuation of political discussions to choose the Speaker of the House of Representatives, indicating that the political forces are awaiting the response of the Sunni blocs regarding choosing the alternative to the ousted President Muhammad Al-Halbousi.
Al-Fatlawi said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “The coordination framework is still waiting for the Sunni forces to agree on one candidate, and if this is not achieved, it will go to support multiple nominations.”
He added, "There is an urgent need to elect a new president as an alternative to Al-Habousi in the first upcoming council sessions," noting that "there has been no agreement on a single candidate."
Al-Fatlawi stressed, “The political forces are committed to completing the legislative and oversight obligations, as well as setting the session for electing a new speaker of Parliament.”
The Secretary-General of Bayraq Al-Khair, Muhammad Al-Khalidi, had confirmed the failure of the Sunni political forces to find a consensus formula to name the next Speaker of the House of Representatives. Ended / 25 h
