On Sunday, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby called on the Iraqi government to help his country confront what he described as a "threat."

Kirby said, according to Fox News, that "the attacks launched by the militias and their failure to be held accountable constitute a greater violation of Iraqi sovereignty than the operations of the American army."

He added, "We also want to see the Iraqi government move and help us confront the threat posed by the militias," as he described it.

It is noteworthy that American air strikes targeted, at dawn on Saturday, Iraq and Syria, resulting in civilian and military casualties and significant damage to public and private property.
