    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Friday (February 9, 2024), the coordination framework revealed that the political forces did not organize million-man protests in front of the American embassy in the center of the capital, Baghdad.
The representative of the coordination framework, Salem Al-Anbaki, told “Baghdad Today”: “Unfortunately, not all political parties really want to remove the American forces. There are those who want this occupation to remain for personal or political benefits, and for this reason we certainly do not find support from all political forces for the two-million protest in front of American embassy".
He added, "The trend towards popular pressure to demonstrate in order to pressure the removal of American forces from Iraq is very likely during the next stage, especially since the coordination framework and its popular bases are strongly supportive of ending the American presence from all Iraqi lands."
Earlier, the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee commented on the possibility of Iraq requesting an end to the security agreement with America, due to its continued bombing of the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces and assassination of its leaders.
Committee member Mahdi Taqi told “Baghdad Today” that “the United States of America’s continued violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and threatening its security and stability by bombing the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces and assassinating its leaders is pushing towards canceling the security agreement,” indicating that “this agreement cannot be maintained without Its provisions are respected and implemented by Washington, and such an agreement cannot be accepted as a justification for any American aggressive action.”
Taqi added, “Iraq will continue to complete the tasks of the international coalition, and there will be no reversal of this decision,” stressing that “there will be a comprehensive review of the security agreement and amending it is not excluded, if any loopholes are found in it that give any excuse and justification for Washington to violate Iraq’s sovereignty.” We in the House of Representatives will support the government in such a decision.”
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, confirmed today, Thursday (February 8, 2024), that the international coalition has become a factor of instability for Iraq, indicating that this path is pushing the Iraqi government, more than ever before, to end the mission of this coalition.
Rasoul said in a statement received by “Baghdad Today” that “the American forces repeatedly and irresponsibly committed everything that would undermine the understandings and the start of bilateral dialogue, as they carried out a clear-cut assassination operation, by directing an air strike in the middle of a residential neighborhood in the capital.” Baghdad, in a way that does not care about the lives of civilians and international laws.”
On Saturday (January 27, 2024), the first round of bilateral dialogue between Iraq and the United States began to end the mission of the international coalition against ISIS, which Baghdad hopes will lead to a gradual reduction of coalition forces on its territory.
