The Ministry of Construction and Housing announced, on Saturday, the completion of the work requirements for the pivotal weighing stations to begin operating them soon throughout Iraq.
The ministry said in a statement, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities, under the supervision of the Ministry’s Department of Roads and Bridges, has completed the requirements for the work of pivotal weighing stations to begin operating them in all governorates.”
She added, "The operation will be done through contracting with specialized investment companies from the private sector, in accordance with the amended Investment Law No. 13 of 2006, to rehabilitate and manage the operation of these stations."
She continued, "The number of weighing stations throughout the governorates is (82) stations, spread out." At the entrances to the governorates and border crossings, and the roads leading to quarries of construction materials, where a mechanism has been prepared to organize the work of these stations, depending on the geographical location and the roads linking the governorates.”

She pointed out, "The operation of three pivotal weighing stations in Diyala Governorate, coinciding with the imminent operation of the weighing station located north of Baghdad on (Baghdad - Salah al-Din Road), while the remaining stations in the governorates will be operated successively, according to the priority of completion."
The Ministry stressed that "the stations will contribute to preserving and developing the national road network, reducing maintenance costs, stimulating commercial and economic activity, preserving the safety of citizens, reducing traffic accidents, and providing new job opportunities."
