Arming the army...a prominent priority for the Sudanese government

The issue of arming the army, developing it, and providing it with the latest technological equipment is important. A top priority in the program of the government of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, as he stressed on more than one occasion “the government’s seriousness in developing the armament of the army and the rest of the security services, which did not receive the required equipment during the last period,” while security experts called for modernizing the air defense systems to include Ensures the safety of Iraq's airspace.
The Iraqi army is one of the armies that quickly recovered and made a big difference through the achievements recorded on the ground in expelling and fighting terrorism, as well as perpetuating the momentum of the battles against terrorism in its various intelligence, military, psychological and media aspects.
A member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Waad Qaddo, told Al-Sabah: “Until now; The Iraqi army was not armed at the required level, and this requires special attention to this file.” He added, “We must work to modernize and purchase modern weapons from multiple origins of different types and provide them to the members of the Iraqi army.”
For his part, security expert Fadel Abu Ragheef said, in his interview with “Al-Sabah,” that “there is a need to modernize air defense armament, and that there is a need to contract to purchase radars and detectors for the air force to keep pace with the challenges.”
Abu Ragheef stated that “the Iraqi sky is almost open.” - To some extent - for all countries in the region and the coalition forces, and we need advanced radars and a high-precision air defense system, and that the armament be at a high level commensurate with the technological scale with which the rest of the armies of the developed countries of the world are armed.” He pointed out that “financing the purchase of weapons in all countries of the world is always more expensive than the rest of the ministries, as the financial allocations to the ministries of defense and security (interior) are special, as security is a symbol of exception, and we need more contracts to raise the level and readiness of the Iraqi army.”
The Security Media Cell had previously reported the existence of plans supported by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, to strengthen and develop the capabilities of the Army Aviation, Air Force, and Air Defense.
The head of the Security Media Cell, Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, said: “The Iraqi army ranked fourth in the classification of Arab armies and ranked 45th in the world according to the results of surveys conducted by centers in developed countries confirming that it deserves these ranks.”
He added, “We seek during the current year 2024 to arm the army to meet the challenges.” “There is a lot of work being done towards arming and developing our systems, especially in the field of air defense.”
