A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today, Friday, stated, “The Republic of Iraq participated with a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Ambassador Haider Shiaa Al-Barrak, Head of the Legal Department, in the oral argument regarding the request for an advisory opinion on the practices of the ‘Israeli entity’ that affect the human rights of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories.” Submitted by the United Nations General Assembly to the International Court of Justice.

According to the statement, Ambassador Al-Barrak delivered “the oral statement of the Republic of Iraq before the court in the public session on Thursday, February 22, 2024.”

In its statement before the International Court of Justice, Iraq stressed “the importance of the court’s fatwa in providing the necessary legal elements to strengthen efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in Palestine and the Middle East region, and that the occupation authorities are obligated to comply with the duty to respect the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.”

He also stressed the need to "stop Israeli violations immediately, by stopping all actions and measures that prevent or hinder the Palestinian people from achieving their right to declare their independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, including immediately ending the occupation with every demonstration and associated measures and practices aimed at prolonging the The occupation and its continued denial of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.”
