    Baghdad today - Erbil
Member of the Peshmerga Committee in the Kurdistan Regional Parliament for the fifth session, Saeed Mustafa, confirmed today, Wednesday (March 13, 2024), that the issue of protecting the border lands is a sovereign issue.
Mustafa said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the federal government is concerned with defending the country’s borders and sovereignty,” indicating that “the issue of Turkish or Iranian transgressions must be resolved through Baghdad.”
Mustafa added, "The region rejects violations, bombing, and military operations, and at the same time calls on opposition armed groups and factions to stay away from the territory of the region and not make it a starting point for their conflict with Turkey or Iran."
The leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, Kawa Sheikh Mus, confirmed yesterday, Tuesday, that Turkey has been making suspicious movements on the border strip between Iraq and Turkey for months.
Moss said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “Turkey took advantage of the political conditions in Iraq and built new military bases, spread its forces and expanded into new areas of Jabal Korek and the areas of Soran, Zakho and Shiladzi, all the way to the borders of the Mahmoudiya region located between Dohuk and Nineveh.”
He added, "Turkey wants to launch a new military operation on the territory of the region for expansionist reasons and known objectives, and the excuse is the presence of our militants in those areas, even though it knows that we do not exist in the aforementioned areas, except in the border strip between the region and Turkey."
It is noteworthy that Turkish Defense Minister Yasser Guler announced on Monday (March 11, 2024) that his country “decided” to end the presence of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in Iraq “completely and completely” before next summer, indicating Turkey’s intention to “launch a giant military operation” in Iraq during the recent period.
The Turkish Daily Sabah newspaper, according to what was translated by “Baghdad Today”, said that the Turkish Minister of Defense, after a meeting he held on Monday with a group of security leaders, including the Minister of Interior, indicated the “possibility” of launching a “huge” military operation in northern Iraq during the month of Ramadan, aiming to... “Totally and completely eliminate” the threat from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and remove it from Iraqi territory.
The Turkish newspaper also indicated that the next military operation may include “establishing a security corridor deep into northern Iraq, reaching about forty kilometers,” stressing that the next operation will be “crossing the Iraqi and Syrian borders.”
The Turkish minister indicated that his country "decided to end" the presence of the Kurdistan Workers' Party in Iraq once and for all, refusing to reveal the details of the operation that he referred to to journalists or to answer questions about its date and the ground goals that it will try to achieve.
