The Iraqi Council of Representatives is scheduled to elect its new president during its session scheduled for next Saturday, and will extend the work of the Independent High Electoral Commission.
In this regard, Ghareeb Ahmed, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan parliamentary bloc, said today, Friday, that the agenda of next Saturday’s session of the House of Representatives includes two important items, namely electing a new president of the Council and extending the work of the Independent High Electoral Commission.

He added that the competition is limited to two candidates from the Sunni component for the presidency of the Council, namely Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, the candidate of the (Progress and Sadara) blocs, and Salem Al-Issawi, the candidate of the (Sovereignty, Firmness and Decisiveness) blocs, indicating that another item on the session’s agenda is to extend the work of the Election Commission for a period of one year and months.
