Today, Friday (March 15, 2024), the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will hold a meeting to decide the party’s candidates for the upcoming legislative elections in the Kurdistan Region, scheduled for June 10, 2024.
Party spokesman Saadi Ahmed Berah said in a press statement, followed by “Baghdad Today,” that “today’s meeting seeks to decide the National Union’s candidates for the upcoming elections in Kurdistan,” noting that “the meeting will vote on the names nominated by the party’s centers in the various constituencies.”
Berah added, "The National Union will assign double the number of seats allocated to each electoral district for each electoral district," explaining that "the total number of National Union candidates for the legislative elections in the region scheduled for next June 10 reaches 200 candidates distributed among the four districts."
Press sources had previously indicated that Bafel Talabani will head the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan list in Sulaymaniyah, and Shalaw Kosrat is the messenger of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan list in Erbil.
It is worth noting that the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, signed a regional order on Sunday (March 3, 2024) setting the date for holding elections for the next session of the Kurdistan Parliament.
The Presidency of the Region said in a statement received by “Baghdad Today” that “In accordance with the order and based on Paragraph (Second) of Article (First) of the Kurdistan Region Presidency Law No. (1) of 2005 as amended, President Nechirvan Barzani decided to set (June 10, 2024) as the date For the general elections of the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament.
The statement added, "According to the regional order, all concerned parties are obligated to perform and accomplish what is necessary in order to cooperate and coordinate with the Independent High Electoral Commission for the purpose of implementing this order, which will be effective as of this day, which is the day of its issuance."
