Al-Mandalawi may continue until the end of the current session.. A representative identifies two paths to resolve the position of Al-Halbousi’s replacement

Baghdad / Hussein Hatem
Today, Monday, a member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Omid Muhammad, revealed the latest developments in choosing the Speaker of the House of Representatives to replace the dismissed Muhammad al-Halbousi.
Muhammad said in an interview with (Al-Mada), “The file for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives is purely political, more than it is legal,” stressing that “the file is confined within the Sunni component, in addition to the decisions of the coordination framework.”
The member of the House of Representatives added, “According to the bylaws of the House of Representatives, after the position of the Speaker of Parliament is vacant, a new speaker is supposed to be chosen.”
Muhammad pointed out, “Failure to agree on choosing a person to head the House of Representatives will make the position vacant until the end of the current parliamentary session.”
He pointed out, “There are two options. The first is to agree on a Sunni figure and present him for the position of presidency of the House of Representatives, or to hold elections for a group of candidates within the dome of Parliament.”
A member of the Legal Committee stated, “It is possible to hold regular sessions until the end of the current session, headed by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi.”
On January 13, the House of Representatives held an extraordinary session to choose the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the first round of voting ended with the victory of the “Taqaddum” party, Shaalan Al-Karim, with 152 votes out of 314 votes, followed by Representative Salem Al-Issawi with 97 votes, and Representative Mahmoud. Al-Mashhadani received 48 votes, Representative Amer Abdul-Jabbar received 6 votes, and Representative Talal Al-Zubaie received one vote. However, verbal altercations took place inside the Council hall, forcing the Council Presidency to adjourn the session until further notice.
The Federal Court also decided to postpone consideration of the lawsuit to cancel MP Shaalan Al-Karim’s membership, submitted by MPs (Youssef Al-Kalabi, Faleh Al-Khazali, and Hussein Mu’nis), until April 29 of this month.
The House of Representatives failed several times to choose a speaker to succeed Muhammad al-Halbousi, who was excluded from the position by a decision of the Federal Court that ruled the termination of his membership. Since then, the Council has held several sessions, but the issue was not raised in those sessions due to the lack of agreement among the heads of the political blocs on the candidate. alternative.
