The head of the Federation of Trade Unions in Basra, Ahmed Fahmi Al-Khafaji, confirmed today, Saturday, that Iraqi professors are threatened with losing their jobs.
Al-Khafaji said, in an interview with Mawazine News, that “the percentage of foreign professors has become much higher than the percentage stipulated by the law,” pointing out that “the registration of foreign professors in different departments, instead of distributing them equally in the departments, is considered a deception of the law.”
He added, "The educational situation is unstable due to the recruitment of professors from Egypt at a lower cost, which led to the dismissal of a number of Iraqi professors."
He pointed out that "if this situation continues, it will lead to the departure of more Iraqi professors, which will negatively affect the national interest and the quality of education in the country."
