On Friday, the Director of Water Resources in Diyala, Muhannad Al-Mamouri, revealed a study of a strategic project to save Lake Hamrin.
Al-Mamouri said, "The Ministry of Water Resources formed a higher committee that includes specialists to study a project to save Lake Hamrin in Diyala from drought by securing alternative water paths for it from Kirkuk towards Salah al-Din and from there to the Narin region in the far north of Diyala before it is linked to the lake."
He added, "The study works to assess the situation and demonstrate the possibility of creating a water alternative to meet emergency situations in Lake Hamrin by supplying it with water from the Kirkuk irrigation project or transferring the flood water in Wadi al-Shay directly to it, which helps in increasing its water reserves."
He pointed out that "the Ministry of Water Resources supports all options that lead to doubling the reservoirs of Lake Hamrin, as it is the strategic reservoir of water in Diyala."
Lake Hamrin is the strategic reservoir of water in Diyala, and it holds more than two billion and 400 million cubic meters of water.
