    Baghdad today - Baghdad
It is hoped that the leaders of the coordination framework will hold a meeting this evening, Tuesday (May 28, 2024), to discuss the 2024 budget schedules sent by the Iraqi government to the House of Representatives.
A member of the coordination framework, Ali Al-Zubaidi, said in an interview with “Baghdad Today,” that “the leaders of the coordination framework will hold an important meeting, this evening, in the presence of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, in order to discuss the 2024 budget schedules due to the presence of parliamentary observations and objections to them.”
Al-Zubaidi stated, “Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani did not inform the leaders of the coordination framework of the details of the budget before sending it to the House of Representatives, and therefore it will be discussed with him, during today’s meeting, in order to speed up voting on it in Parliament.”
Yesterday, Monday (May 27, 2024), the head of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, confirmed that employees’ salaries would be guaranteed in the financial budget for the year 2024.
A statement from the media office of the committee chairman, received by “Baghdad Today,” stated that Al-Atwani “chaired the expanded meeting of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, today, Monday, to discuss the 2024 budget schedules, in the presence of the Minister of Planning, Muhammad Tamim, the Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, and a number of advisors to the Prime Minister, and the meeting discussed the schedules.” And the 2024 budget data, the philosophy of building this budget, and the mechanisms for determining financial allocations, both with regard to reducing investment expenditures and the significant increase in current expenditures.”
He added: "The meeting also discussed a number of important topics, including financial allocations to the governorates, spending policy, the mechanism for disbursing amounts, ways to fill the budget deficit, and how to increase non-oil revenues, as well as the issue of ensuring the sustainability of financing for ongoing projects."
According to the statement, the Ministers of Finance and Planning reviewed “the spending and financing schedules and projects listed for the year 2023, and they also presented the government’s vision regarding the 2024 schedules, which focus on completing lagging projects and securing the requirements of basic sectors.”
After the meeting, Al-Atwani confirmed that “employees’ salaries are fully secured during 2024,” noting that “it was agreed to rotate the governorate allocations that were not spent last year to 2024, after securing the Food Security Law allocations in the spending units.”
He added, "We have committed the Ministry of Finance to complete financing the governorates' allocations for the year 2023," noting, "The allocations for appointments and contracts in the 2023 budget are legally secured, and these paragraphs will be implemented during 2024."
