Shafaq News/ The parliamentary Taqadum bloc revealed, today, Tuesday, the latest developments in the file of electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the date for resolving this file.
Representative of the bloc, Burhan Al-Fahd, told Shafaq News Agency, “Dialogues and negotiations are ongoing and ongoing regarding the file for electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, but there is a sluggishness due to the legislative recess and the proximity of the Eid holiday.”
Al-Fahd added, "After the end of the Eid holiday, the intense dialogues will return forcefully to resolve the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives after the end of this holiday. This position is a full entitlement and cannot be relinquished, just as it is an entitlement for us in the Taqadum Party."
The representative confirmed for Taqadum that "the current dialogues did not lead to any final agreement regarding the issue of electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Therefore, after the Eid holiday, we will witness in-depth dialogues to resolve the election of the president, and this resolution will be according to the results of the dialogues that will take place soon."
Regarding Al-Mashhadani remaining a candidate for Taqaddam or amending the bylaws of Parliament to present a new candidate, Al-Fahd said, “For every recent incident and the issue of reopening the nomination door depends on the dialogues that will take place during the coming days, or keeping Al-Mashhadani as a candidate supported by us and all options are open to the Taqadum Party.” “After the results of the dialogues are resolved, the leaders of the blocs and parties will agree on any matter.”
On May 21 last; The coordinating framework, which brings together the Shiite political forces, renewed its refusal to amend the internal regulations of the House of Representatives in order to reopen nominations for the presidency of Parliament.
On May 18, the Iraqi Council of Representatives held a session dedicated to electing a new president, attended by about 300 representatives. The Council failed to elect the president in its first round, forcing it to hold a second electoral round in which Representative Salem Al-Issawi from the Sovereignty Alliance led by Khamis Al-Khanjar received 158 votes, while Representative Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani received 137 votes for the Progress Alliance led by former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, and Representative Amer Abdul-Jabbar, three votes, while the invalid votes reached 13 votes, and Parliament went to a third round, according to a statement from the Media Department of the House of Representatives received by Shafaq News Agency.
However, the third round did not see the light of day due to a quarrel between representatives that developed into a fistfight, as the MPs’ phones documented a verbal altercation and fistfights between representatives from the front and colleagues from other blocs against the backdrop of the election of a Speaker of Parliament.
The scene did not differ much from the session of January 3, 2024, the scenes that the representatives leaked from the session yesterday evening, Saturday, of verbal altercations and clashes of hands, which were witnessed and experienced five months ago, with a scenario repeated by the representatives of the Taqadum Party, which is headed by Muhammad Al-Halbousi.
