A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: "Hussein met with the Spanish Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the NATO summit held in the US capital, Washington, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the alliance."
During the meeting, the two sides praised the distinguished relations between the two countries, and discussed the mission of the NATO mission in Iraq and the Spanish role within the framework of this alliance.
The Spanish Foreign Minister explained: "The tasks of the alliance currently include the areas of security, combating terrorism, energy, innovation and climate, in addition to other areas of cooperation, especially with the countries of the South."
The two sides stressed, according to the statement, the importance of strengthening economic relations between the two countries and the importance of exchanging official visits.
The Foreign Minister expressed Iraq's welcome to the work of Spanish companies, and thanked his Spanish counterpart for his country's recognition of the Palestinian state, calling for efforts within the framework of the European Union and NATO to stop the war and prevent the spread of the conflict.
