{Local: Al Furat News} The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Chairman of the Child Care Authority, Ahmed Al-Asadi, signed the tasks of the work of the child care units in Iraq with UNICEF, while stressing the continuation of efforts to provide an environment that guarantees every child his basic rights and allows him the opportunity to achieve his full potential.
Al-Asadi said in his speech at the Iraqi Children's Day celebration held by the Social Protection Authority in cooperation with UNICEF that "the Ministry of Labor, especially the Child Care and Social Protection Authority, worked to guarantee children's rights to good education, and launched a grant for children from poor families to ensure their continuation in school, in addition to comprehensive health care."
The Minister revealed that "the number of individual children covered by social assistance reached 3 million and 479,523 children, which is the largest number reached by the Ministry," noting that "the Ministry has been keen to launch the national strategy for early childhood development in the country, which guarantees the development of the child until the age of eight and secures their needs."
He explained that "the efforts of the Ministry, through the Supreme National Committee for Monitoring Violations against Children, have resulted in removing Iraq from the list of children used in armed conflicts," noting that "the efforts of the Ministry are continuing to provide a safe environment for the protection of children and is working in cooperation with the Council of Representatives to prepare a draft law for the protection of children, which has had its first reading and is awaiting its second reading in preparation for voting on it."
