The head of the New Generation parliamentary bloc, Sarwa Abdul Wahid, condemned today, Tuesday, the amendment made to the Personal Status Law based on the request of only one representative, noting that this amendment affects all Iraqis.
In a tweet, Abdul Wahid confirmed: “The Presidency of the Council of Representatives warned us against talking about Parliament, but when the Presidency sets an agenda based on the request of one representative and amends a law that affects all Iraqis, how do we respond to that?”
Abdul Wahid added that "passing this amendment will divide Iraq," and she called on those who claim that the supreme authority called for this amendment to divide Iraq to provide clear and explicit evidence of that.
Abdul Wahid ended her rejection of the amendments, saying: "We will not stand idly by."
