Shafaq News/ A source in Kirkuk Provincial Council revealed on Thursday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani will hold a meeting described as "important" with members of the "Sunni" Arab bloc to resolve the issue of forming the local government, stressing that al-Sudani is determined to end this issue.
The source told Shafaq News Agency, "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani invited the members of the Sunni Arab group to a special meeting with them at ten o'clock this morning at the Council of Ministers headquarters in the capital, Baghdad."
He added, "The meeting is important as its aim is to reach an agreement on forming the local government in Kirkuk province and determining who will be the governor and who will assume the presidency of the provincial council."
The source continued, "The entire number of members of the Arab group will meet with Al-Sudani according to the agreed upon date, and there are no agreements with other political blocs, and it is not possible to talk about alliances with other parties at present except after reaching a consensus formula between everyone, then things will be clear."
Kirkuk province is witnessing a political crisis regarding the formation of the local government. Since the announcement of the final results of the provincial council elections last January, the Kirkuk provincial council has not yet decided on the selection of a president and the election of a governor. While the local governments in the rest of the provinces are continuing to carry out their duties, Kirkuk, and Diyala as well, are still hostage to the conflicts of the political blocs that have not yet agreed on a decision on the formation of the local government for the province.
