Planning shows types of Iraqi travelers and confirms: It is difficult to include the “permanent” ones among them in the 2024 census

The Ministry of Planning stated that there are two types of Iraqi travelers, while confirming that permanent immigrants are difficult to include in the 2024 population census.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, said, "The general population and housing census will be implemented on 11-20-2024." He pointed out that "there are no obstacles delaying its implementation, all procedures are taking place according to the project's specified timetables."
Al-Hindawi added that “the general population and housing census will include all areas of the country without exception, including slums, nomadic Bedouins, and camps for the displaced.” He stressed that “there are two types of travelers: temporary travelers, whose data is obtained from their families, and permanent travelers (migration), who are difficult to include in the census.”
The Federal Ministry of Planning, Mohammed Ali Tamim, announced last March that the date for the final population census would be November 20 of this year.
Since 2005, the Iraqi authorities have been seeking to implement a census, but the move failed and has been stalled since then for several reasons, including political problems related to the implementation of Article 140 of the Permanent Constitution, which relates to normalizing the situation in Kirkuk Governorate and the rest of the disputed areas.
