    The Parliamentary Legal Committee revealed, today, Sunday, August 4, 2024, the importance of the proposal to amend the Lawyers Law and its most prominent paragraphs, while indicating that the number of this important segment has increased significantly in the past few years.

    The agenda of today's session, Sunday, August 4, 2024, includes in its third paragraph, a report and discussion of the "second reading" of the proposed amendment to the Lawyers' Law No. (173) of 1965.

    In an interview with Sumaria News, a member of the Legal Committee, Muhad Al-Khafaji, said about the Lawyers' [url=https://www.alsumaria.tv/entity/1080927662/%D9%82%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%88%D9%86 %D8%B1%D9%82%D9%85 173 %D9%84%D8%B3%D9%86%D8%A9 1965/ar/]Law No. 173 of 1965[/url], "We proceeded, in cooperation with the [url=https://www.alsumaria.tv/entity/3690674337/%D9%86%D9%82%D8%A7%D8%A8%D8%A9 %D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%AD%D8%A7%D9%85%D9%8A%D9%86 %D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82%D9%8A%D9%8A%D9%86/ar/]Iraqi Bar Association[/url], to amend the Lawyers' Law to keep pace with the expansion that has occurred in this important segment, and its number has increased significantly in the past few years."



    He added that "the first reading of the law took place during the past months, and we received a proposal from the Bar Association, and many paragraphs were amended in light of this proposal and submitted in the name of the Legal Committee," noting that "the law includes many details, including defining the conditions for membership, opening companies, strengthening law firms, establishing an institute related to legal affairs, training those wishing to join the association, and giving other powers to the Association Council."

    It is noteworthy that on February 27, 2024, the House of Representatives completed the first reading of the proposed law amending the Bar Association Law No. (174) of 1965.
