    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Former MP Laith al-Dulaimi called on the government and parliament, on Friday (August 16, 2024), to pardon all forgers in the country until the leader of the Progress Party, Mohammed al-Halbousi, is held accountable.
Al-Dulaimi said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "Al-Halbousi is considered one of the biggest forgers in Iraq, but today we see him sitting with senior politicians and attending the most important political meetings and forums," expressing his "extreme surprise at dealing politically with this figure."
He added that "it is shameful and unfortunate that a person proven to be involved in forgery sits with  the country's political leaders," calling on the government and parliament to "pardon all forgers until Halbousi is held accountable and tried."
Al-Dulaimi added, "Political leaders are also required not to sit with Halbousi."
On November 21, 2023, the Federal Court decided to officially terminate the membership of Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, and First Deputy Mohsen al-Mandalawi became the Speaker of the Council. He announced several times that a date had been set for a session to elect a new speaker, but all the sessions that were held did not lead to the election of a replacement due to al-Halbousi’s interference.
Despite the many legal and constitutional violations, and the fraud scandal announced by the Iraqi judiciary, the dismissed Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, according to observers, is still using his influence to obstruct the selection of a new Speaker of Parliament.
