    Baghdad/Al-Masala: An informed source, who attended the meeting of the Iraqi Ministerial Council for the Economy and its counterpart in the Kurdistan Regional Government, revealed that the two sides agreed on several points, including resolving the issue of salaries and removing customs checkpoints.
    The source said that Baghdad and Erbil agreed on the following points:
    • Solving the problem of salary recipients in the Kurdistan Region and disbursing the dues for last August, as Erbil is scheduled to send the August salary list to Baghdad in the period from tomorrow, Tuesday, until the end of the week, and Baghdad will also send the August salaries according to the list that is being audited and verified.
    • Forming a joint committee to remove customs checkpoints between the provinces of the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi provinces, and it was decided to begin removing them next week.
    • After reaching an understanding on the issue of corporate taxes, companies in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq are to pay taxes to only one government and there should not be two taxes for two governments, in addition to dealing with companies registered with any government, officially.
    • Resolving investment issues between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq regarding investment projects and licenses. In this regard, it was decided that a delegation from the Kurdistan Region Investment Commission will head to Baghdad next week.
    Yesterday, Sunday (September 8, 2024), the Federal Ministerial Council for the Economy and the Kurdistan Regional Economic Council held a meeting in the city of Erbil to discuss the controversial issues between the two sides.
    The Iraqi Ministry of Finance had set the objectives of the visit of the delegation of the Ministerial Council for the Economy to Erbil, stressing that it seeks to resolve the problems between Baghdad and Erbil in accordance with the constitution.
    The ministry said in a statement on Saturday (September 7, 2024) that the visit aims to “enhance cooperation between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in the economic and financial fields,” and also seeks to “resolve outstanding problems between the two sides in accordance with the constitution and applicable laws,” in addition to “developing relations between Baghdad and Erbil in a way that serves the interests of the Iraqi people.”
    The delegation of the Iraqi Ministerial Council for the Economy includes the Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq and Chairman of the Council, Fuad Hussein, in the presence of Mohammed Ali Tamim, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Taif Sami, Minister of Finance, Athir Al-Ghariri, Minister of Trade, Ahmed Al-Asadi, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Hamid Al-Ghazi, Secretary-General of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, Ali Al-Alaq, Governor of the Central Bank, and a number of senior officials from the federal government.
