Baghdad/Al-Masala: The head of the “Nineveh Future” bloc in Nineveh, Mohammed Al-Rayes, confirmed today, Thursday, that Nineveh Governorate suffers from a lack of sports activity, while he pointed out that there are projects that have been stalled since 2012 and have not seen the light of day until now, and their value is billions, and he called on the Minister of Youth and Sports to visit the governorate to see the sports reality.
Al-Rais said, “The Scientific Forum project in Nineveh Governorate is considered the main center for the planetarium in the northern region, which costs 14 billion Iraqi dinars and has been stalled since 2012 and has not yet seen the light.”
He added, "The ministerial sports projects in the province 6, in addition to the Olympic swimming pool and bathing facility, which cost 5 billion Iraqi dinars and is 60% complete, in addition to the presence of 3 stadiums in Tal Afar, Al-Hamdaniya and Al-Qayyarah and a sports forum in Al-Mansour neighborhood, are all lagging behind."
Al-Rais appealed to the Minister of Youth and Sports to “put pressure on the implementing companies and settle some financial disputes between the ministry and the companies in order to activate the sports movement in Nineveh,” indicating that “there is a clear shortcoming and the minister must visit the governorate and review these projects and the necessity of supporting the sports movement in order to improve the practical and sports reality and to hold seminars and Olympic, Arab or local competitions within this governorate.”
He continued: “We have a sports city project at a cost of 114 billion, which includes a hotel and three stadiums, the first with a capacity of 30,000 spectators, the second with a capacity of 2,000, and the last with a capacity of 500. It also includes an airstrip, squares, public gardens, and parks.”
He pointed out that "if these sports forums are completed, the governorate may become a center of attraction and sports attraction, and also for participation in international competitions and exchange of experiences."
