The Ministry of Migration and Displacement revealed the latest developments regarding Lebanese arriving in Iraq, indicating that most of them are concentrated in the provinces of Karbala and Najaf.
The ministry’s spokesman, Ali Abbas, said that “the impact of the events that occurred in Gaza and Lebanon is not far from Iraq,” indicating that “the Ministry of Migration, under the direction of the Prime Minister, has begun forming an operations room to accommodate Lebanese families inside Iraqi territory.”
The spokesman for the Ministry of Migration added that “there is coordination with the holy shrines, as most of those arriving in Iraq visit the holy shrines.”
He pointed out that “the Ministry of Migration and Displacement has submitted an action plan to the Prime Minister’s office, in addition to the costs incurred by the plan.”
Abbas pointed out that “there is a database prepared to register Lebanese families arriving in Iraq,” indicating that “the Lebanese are distributed across the Iraqi provinces, but most of them are present in Karbala and Najaf.”
Iraq has begun receiving Lebanese refugees a few days ago, according to a decision by the Council of Ministers. The decision enabled the Lebanese to enter Iraqi territory with identification cards, if a passport is not available.
The Iraqi government and private institutions continue to provide humanitarian aid to the Lebanese people amid the escalating displacement crisis and worsening humanitarian conditions, especially in southern Lebanon.
The humanitarian situation in Lebanon is worsening as a result of the intensification of the mutual shelling between Hezbollah and the Israeli army, and the continued bombing of several sites that it says belong to Hezbollah.
