Member of the Security and Defense Committee, Ali Al-Bandawi, revealed the latest developments in the joint committee between Iraq and the international coalition.
Al-Bandawi said, “The meetings of the joint committee between Iraq and the international coalition are continuing, and the Prime Minister’s position regarding the issue of removing foreign forces from Iraq is clear.”
He added, “The outputs and results of what is issued by the committee are binding on both parties,” noting that “there is an Iraqi-American agreement whose goal is to stabilize the security situation in Iraq.”
He hinted that “there are some forces that object to the issue of removing foreign forces from the country, but the vast majority are in favor of resolving the issue by removing the coalition forces.”
There are about 2,500 American soldiers in Iraq, as part of Washington's efforts to prevent the return of ISIS, which occupied large areas of Iraq and Syria in 2014.
Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani said, “The most serious incidents are those that have been repeated more than once in Iraq through attacks by international coalition forces against the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces,” adding: “We have repeatedly stressed that in the event of a violation or violation of Before any Iraqi party, or if Iraqi law is violated, the Iraqi government is the only party that has the right to follow up on the merits of these violations.”
