A government delegation headed by the Prime Minister's Advisor for Project Follow-up, Nasser Turki Al-Awadi, was briefed on Tuesday on the work stages and completion rates at Nasiriyah International Airport.
Al-Awadi said in a statement to the official agency, followed by "Mawazine News", that "based on the Prime Minister's directives and the important follow-up of this strategic project, and with the aim of adopting international standards for strategic projects, we and the follow-up team were briefed on the work rates and stages at Nasiriyah International Airport."
Al-Awadi added that "this project is strategic and is located in the historic Ziggurat area, which includes the shrine of the Prophet Abraham's house, and it is expected to witness a large turnout of foreign tourists for tourism and Hajj," stressing that "the Prime Minister pays great attention to this cultural landmark, due to its benefit and importance to the central and southern regions of Iraq."
For his part, Director of Nasiriyah International Airport Ali Al-Gharabi explained, in a statement to the official agency, followed by "Mawazine News", that "the airport is considered one of the strategic and important projects in Iraq and the governorate, as its total area is 16 million and 500 meters, and the construction area is two million meters," stressing that "the completion rates are advanced, and the operational capacity at the beginning of the project's completion is 750 thousand passengers."
Al-Gharabi explained that "Dhi Qar Governorate is the fourth among the governorates of Iraq, in terms of its tourism importance, and we seek - with the efforts and directives of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Transport and the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers - to complete this project in the tenth month of the year 2025."
