Independent MP Kazem Al-Fayyadh confirmed today, Saturday (November 23, 2024), that the House of Representatives sessions will witness the activation of the oversight role after it was suspended throughout the past period.
Al-Fayadh said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "There is a parliamentary trend aimed at activating the oversight role of the House of Representatives during the upcoming sessions, and this matter is even supported by the new president, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani," stressing "the importance of activating this role after it was suspended throughout the past period due to political conflicts."
He added, "The House of Representatives' oversight role is not limited to interrogation operations, but rather includes parliamentary questions, hosting, field visits, following up on contracts, and others. We are working to activate this matter soon, especially in light of the various failures in the state's joints."
On Tuesday (November 19, 2024), Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani directed the preparation of reports on the performance of ministers, governors and heads of bodies, in order to activate the oversight role of the Parliament during the coming period, calling for giving the issue utmost importance and harnessing all the tools of the Parliament to the Parliamentary Integrity Committee for the purpose of achieving the tasks assigned to it and seeking the assistance of the supporting oversight bodies, including the Federal Integrity Commission and the Federal Financial Supervision Bureau, to provide all the information required in this regard.
