Shafaq News/ The head of the Parliamentary Regions Committee, Khaled Hassan al-Darraji, ruled out any amendment or change in the provisions of the draft election law, which is to be completed by the Iraqi parliament today, Saturday, despite popular objections, while he questioned the numbers of those who objected to the law because of the timing of its approval at dawn last Monday.
Al-Daradji told Shafaq News agency, "The election law being approved was prepared by a political agreement by the forces of the state administration, but everything is possible until the law is fully approved," ruling out at the same time "any fundamental changes in the law despite popular and parliamentary objections." .
Hassan added, "The absentees cannot be judged to be opponents or supporters of the law, after the first session to approve the law took place at dawn."
Parliament held a session after midnight last Sunday that continued until dawn on Monday 19-20 March 2023, to vote on the controversial election law.
Parliament voted to adopt specific mechanisms for sorting the election results, during its vote on the third amendment law to the House of Representatives, provincial and district elections law No. 12 of 2018, and to hold provincial elections on 11-6-2023.
And the Iraqi parliament also voted, at dawn on Monday, that the next parliament will consist of (329) seats, which is the same current number.
Following the completion of its approval, which is scheduled for today, Saturday, March 25, 2023, the sit-down protesters who reject the amendment of the election law (St. Lego) began to gather in front of the Iraqi Parliament in Baghdad, rejecting the law.
