CBS Appears to Edit Out Bill Clinton’s Gaffe During Interview on Wife’s Health

CBS appears to have edited a verbal slip made by Bill Clinton that could have had more negative ramifications on the conversation surrounding Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s health.
During the former president’s Monday interview with Charlie Rose, Clinton addressed his wife’s collapse while she was leaving a 9/11 memorial as well as her diagnosis of pneumonia and dehydration. In the version of the interview that aired, Clinton said, “Rarely, but on more than one occasion over the last many, many years, the same sort of thing has happened to her when she just got severely dehydrated.”

However, as the Daily Caller noted, a transcript released by CBS indicates that’s not exactly what Clinton originally said.
“Because frequently — not frequently, rarely, but on more than one occasion over the last many, many years, the same sort of thing has happened to her when she just got severely dehydrated,” the transcript reads. “And she has worked like a demon, you know, as secretary of state and as a senator and in the years since.”
He added that he was “glad” that the campaign made the decision to cancel some of the upcoming events in the wake of her illness.
Clinton seemed quick to correct himself, and while it was likely simply an slip of the tongue — he’s had multiple gaffes while on the campaign trails for his wife — Mediaite noted that “it is interesting that they chose to edit out an error that could have very well been newsworthy by itself.”
In a statement Tuesday, CBS said Clinton’s interview ran in its entirety on multiple shows and streaming news services. However, the interview that aired on “CBS Evening News” had been “edited purely for time while on deadline for the live broadcast.”
