Iranian authorities have promised "similar" measures in response to sanctions imposed by the US administration on Iranians and foreigners to support Iran's missile program.
A statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that Tehran would, in return, ban a number of American companies and figures. "The list of names will be announced later," noting that US sanctions are "worthless".
The US administration on Tuesday listed 18 Iranian individuals and companies on the sanctions list because of its missile program, which "runs counter to international laws."
The State Department stressed that Tehran's policies "undermine the foundations of peace and security provided for in the nuclear agreement."
She said the sanctions on Iran were the reason for its support for the militias of Hezbollah, Houthis, Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
The State Department added that Iran continues to support the Houthis in Yemen with sophisticated weapons, which threatens navigation in the Red Sea, pointing out that it supports Iraqi militias that recruit children to fight and "force Afghan refugees to participate in the war in Syria."
