Nineveh Water Directorate announced the launch of a project funded by a German loan to eliminate water scarcity in the Nineveh Plain.
Nineveh Water Director Mu'ayyad Sadiq Elias told Al-Sabah: The project was launched after the financial amounts were provided, as it will work to supply the districts, sub-districts and villages affiliated with the Nineveh Plain, especially in the districts of Bartella and Bashiqa.
He added that the site was handed over to the consulting team and the implementing company to begin work, which includes extending a 26-kilometre transmission line, in addition to establishing a combined water unit with a capacity of 400 cubic metres.
Elias added that the problem of water scarcity caused great discontent in the districts, sub-districts and villages of the Nineveh Plain during the current summer.
He explained that the Directorate has completed a number of projects to provide potable water to more than 150 villages in all of Mosul's axes during the past few months.
