    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
MP Mukhtar Al-Moussawi confirmed, today, Monday (September 16, 2024), that the general amnesty law cannot proceed without emphasizing the principle of adopting an accurate definition of those included in the fight against terrorism.
Al-Moussawi explained in an interview with Baghdad Today that “any person included in the fight against terrorism cannot be granted his freedom again, because these people pose a threat to security and stability,” noting that the general amnesty in its comprehensiveness may be the beginning of other complications and negative effects.
Al-Moussawi pointed out that, "The consultations are ongoing, but we believe that any person included in the article related to combating terrorism will not be included in the amnesty, and this matter is clear and fixed, and that the amnesty must be within specifications that take into account security and stability in general."
He explained that "the coming days will decide the options regarding the amendments to the general amnesty, and whether there will be agreement on its provisions or not, stressing that anyone whose hands are stained with the blood of innocents will not be included in the amnesty, and this is a clear and established matter."
On Friday (September 13, 2024), a member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Aref Al-Hamami, revealed the latest developments in the general amnesty law included in the government program.
Al-Hamami told Baghdad Today, "The general amnesty law is one of the laws agreed upon in the government program and was presented in the first sessions of the parliamentary legal committee. Our opinion was centered on including all crimes in it, with the exception of terrorists, thieves of public money, drug dealers, and espionage." He pointed out that "these crimes are a red line that no representative or bloc can defend and include in the amnesty."
He added, "The option of excluding terrorists, money thieves, drug dealers and espionage is our choice and there is no going back on it," stressing that "the law was included in the agreement to form the local government and we expect it to proceed according to what was determined after agreement on its paths during the coming period."
He pointed out that "the general amnesty is important, but it should not include any terrorist whose hands are stained with the blood of innocents, or other crimes that we consider a red line, referring to those who steal public money, drug dealers, and espionage."
