    Economy News - Baghdad
The General Authority of Customs announced, on Sunday, the automation of 9 customs centers out of 21 centers, and while indicating that more than 30% of its employees have been trained to reduce errors and corruption and speed up transactions, it indicated that the use of artificial intelligence will enhance risk management in imports.

The head of the General Authority of Customs, Hassan Al-Akeili, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and reviewed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "the authority continues to develop its cadres and get closer to modern technologies, with the aim of limiting employee discretionary power and improving overall performance."

Al-Akeili added that "the authority trained 748 employees during the first half of this year 2024 out of a total of 2,400 employees, or more than 30% of the authority's employees," indicating that "the goal of these trainings is to reduce the possibility of errors and reduce corruption, in addition to simplifying and accelerating customs procedures."

He pointed out that "Customs is working to activate artificial intelligence in its approved electronic systems," stressing that "this approach will lead to improving the sorting of imports coming to Iraq according to risk ratios through risk management systems that operate with smart systems."

Regarding automation, Al-Akeili explained that "the authority has completed the automation of 9 customs centers out of 21 centers," stressing that "the authority aims to complete the automation of all customs crossings and all administrative formations and headquarters within cities and in the capital, Baghdad, by the end of 2025."
