Australia may exceed Qatar with liquefied gas

Australia is expected to become the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) beyond Qatar, after starting a giant project aimed at a $ 180 billion production boom, Reuters said.

The last large component of the project, operated by INPEX Japan, has arrived in Australia to begin work on gas cooling for export in 2018.

The project will launch a heated race with Dutch Dutch Shell Dutch Shell, the world's largest floating liquefied natural gas facility off the coast of Australia.

"There is a lot at stake in this giant project. The reputation of the two companies, as well as the first access to common gas fields and Australia's success in moving beyond Qatar to become the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas," said Reuters.

Extez Ventcher, a floating facility for the production, storage and discharge of gas, traveled 5,600 kilometers from a shipyard in South Korea and will travel 220 kilometers from the coast of Western Australia to process condensates from the Xtiz field.

Inpex, the largest oil and gas exploration company in Japan, manages Extez, the country's largest offshore investment and its first giant LNG project.

The head of Matthews Energy Consulting, Tom O. Sullivan: "This project is a huge source of pride for Japan and adding a mission to the energy supply."

He said: "All eyes on INPEX to see if it can succeed in this without further out of the budget control and delayed implementation."

The first production, due by March 2018, will be more than a year late than the target date. Costs have increased by more than 10 percent to $ 37 billion since the project was approved in 2012.

Nearby, the $ 12.6 billion Royal Dutch Shell project is also lagging behind schedule.

The Shell facility, which is six times larger than the largest aircraft carrier, reached a surface of more than four football fields last month.

Shell expects that the process of connecting the system and the pilot operation will take up to 12 months, which means that the start-up will be between April and July 2018.
