UAE Ambassador to America: We fought Saudi Arabia for 200 years because of Wahhabism

    10:00 - 19/08/2017

The United States ambassador to Washington, Yusuf al-Otaiba, has revealed new leaks to the Saudi ambassador to Washington, saying his country has fought Saudi Arabia for 200 years because of Wahhabism.
The messages, which were leaked by a group called the Global Lexicon of Otaiba and ridiculing Saudi leaders, show a comment on the 2008 ban by the Saudi Arabia's Royal Commission on the Prohibition of the Sale of Red Rose on Valentine's Day.
In another letter, al-Otaiba wrote to the Washington Times columnist Tom Friedman that Abu Dhabi had fought the Saudis for two hundred years because of Wahhabism, and that Emiratis had a "bad history" with Saudi Arabia far more than any other party.
In his letters, Otaiba clearly states that the receipt of the Crown Prince by Prince Mohammed bin Salman is an opportunity not to be repeated before the UAE to put its mark on the neighbor the largest of them much.
In a third letter, Otaiba wrote to Martin Indyk, the former US ambassador to Israel, how it was now time for Emiratis to get the best possible results from the Saudis.
"It is on a mission to make the Riyadh government more efficient," wrote Otaiba, an expert on the Council on Foreign Relations. "I think of the mentality of the private sector man," he said.
In another leak published by Interspect, the US reported that Yusuf al-Otaiba, in a leaked e-mail sent about two years ago by UAE officials, expressed his concern about the repercussions of the war in which his country participates in Yemen as part of the Saudi-led alliance against the Yemeni people.
The US site cited a picture from the letter dated September 22, 2015. The ambassador says that the human and material losses caused by this war are politically sensitive to the administration, which was then led by former President Barack Obama.
He wrote in his letter that the increased targeting of civilian sites - as well as the weakness of humanitarian support operations puts Washington in a corner, making it appear to turn a blind eye to human suffering.
Al Otaiba has sent this letter to officials including Ali Al Shamsi, Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme Council for National Security in the UAE, Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Al-Otaiba did not propose changing the strategy of the alliance, but rather moving on the diplomatic and media levels to minimize the repercussions of the issue. Ending / 25
