Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif criticized the statements made by US Secretary of State on the presence of Iranian factions in Iraq, stressing that Washington is influenced by Saudi Arabia, the regional opponent of Iran.
"What country exactly do the Iraqis who rose up to defend their homes come from," Zarif said in a tweet on Twitter,
"Unfortunately, the government of US President Donald Trump is not ready to learn from its mistakes, and will not abandon its anti-Iranian approach," he said.
A statement by the Iraqi Prime Minister's Office, Haider al-Abadi, expressed his surprise at Tilerson's remarks about the popular crowd. "The popular mobilization is a national force and no one has the right to interfere in our affairs," he said.
