(Reuters) - The son of former Iraqi Prime Minister Tariq Aziz on Monday ordered the confiscation of his father's property by the Iraqi government.
"The decision to confiscate my father's property is only to gain votes as the elections approach," Ziad Tariq Aziz was quoted by AFP as saying.
"For 15 years we have been under pressure, exclusion and injustice," Aziz said. "When does this end?"
"We have heard of sanctions against those accused of committing what was said to be crimes against the Iraqi people, but why are second-class relatives being targeted?" He said, denying any possession of any property lent to his family.
The accountability and justice issued on Monday, a decision to confiscate the movable and immovable property of dozens of officials under the former regime of Saddam Hussein and their relatives.
