[rtl]US Defense Secretary James Matisse on Thursday called for US military support for the Saudi-led "coalition" forces in Yemen not to be affected..[/rtl]

[rtl]The US support, which includes limited intelligence support and the refueling of coalition aircraft, is aimed at reaching a negotiated solution through the mediation of the United Nations, he said..[/rtl]

[rtl]"The imposition of new restrictions on this US military support could increase civilian casualties and expose cooperation with our partners in the fight against terrorism and reduce our impact on the Saudis, which will exacerbate the situation and the humanitarian crisis"He said.[/rtl]
[rtl]Matisse also claimed US aid as "non-combat support" focused on helping to reduce the risk of civilian casualties"He said.[/rtl]

[rtl]A group of bipartisan Senators are trying to take advantage of an article in the 1973 War Powers Act that allows any senator to pass a bill on withdrawing US troops from conflicts that Congress has not approved.[/rtl]

[rtl]The Trump bill will force "the withdrawal of US armed forces from hostilities in the Republic of Yemen or those affecting them"He said.[/rtl]

[rtl]Their move is the latest in a battle between Congress and the White House over the control of military conflicts.[/rtl]
