The US dollar rose on Friday to its highest level this year against a basket of currencies despite less than expected US jobs data for April.
The US economy added jobs below expectations and although the unemployment rate fell to the lowest level in about 17 and a half years, but that was because some of the unemployed came out of the workforce.
The average wage rose by 4 cents, or 0.1 percent, last month after a 0.2 percent increase in March, bringing the annual average wage increase to 2.6 percent.
The data came after the Federal Reserve also appeared to adopt a less hawkish tone at the end of its meeting on Wednesday.
The dollar index jumped to 92.90, the highest since December 28. The US currency also rose above the Swiss franc's parity rate, climbing to 1.0022 francs to the dollar.
The dollar is rising as investors bet that the US central bank will continue to raise interest rates while other central banks, including the European Central Bank, will move at a slightly slower pace.
