Reuters reported on Tuesday that Iraq intends to ask the United States to exempt him from some of the US sanctions imposed by Washington on Iran recently.
"A delegation will travel to Washington to ask for exemptions in the application of sanctions," the agency quoted Iraqi officials as saying, but did not say when the trip would take place.
"The Iraqi government is planning to ask Washington to get the exemption," an Iraqi central bank official said. "It will happen soon."
For his part, an official in the office of Prime Minister Haider Abadi refused to comment on the subject, according to the agency.
"We have discussed the policies of Iran with our partners around the world and we have addressed the message that the president has sent to the rest of the world that the United States is fully committed to imposing all sanctions," a State Department official said.
"Iraq is an important friend and partner of the United States and we are committed to ensuring Iraqi stability and prosperity," he said.
The agency pointed out that "Iraqi officials fear a lack of basic materials if Baghdad complied with all the punishment of this phone can lead to political unrest at a sensitive time in Iraqi politics." Ending / 25 z
