    A former member of parliament, Mishan al-Jubouri, accused Iran Tuesday of achieving another "victory" in Iraq, a reference to Barham Saleh's election as president.
    "After the victory of its candidate Mohamed Halboussi, the presidency of parliament, Iran has achieved another victory in the victory of the candidate of its historic ally, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Barham Saleh, the post occupied by its enemy, Saddam Hussein."
    The Iraqi parliament voted on Tuesday to name Barham Saleh as president of Iraq after a controversial meeting with the Democratic Party.
    The choice of Saleh, a candidate of the National Union after a second round of voting, where he remained alone in competition after the withdrawal of the Democratic Party candidate Fuad Hussein by a decision of the Democratic Party bloc, attributed the reason to break the rest of the political blocs of the agreements.
    Since the fall of the regime of Saddam Hussein in 2003, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (the party of the late President Jalal Talabani) dominated the post of President of the Republic, on the basis of an implicit agreement with his rival the Kurdistan Democratic Party led by Massoud Barzani, who in turn retained the presidency of the Kurdistan Region.
    But this year, the competition seemed fierce, especially after the freezing of the presidency of the region, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party considered the previous agreement by virtue of the abolition, especially as he is the largest Kurdish parliamentary bloc in Baghdad.
    After the election of Barham Saleh, the most prominent figure in the authorities, the prime minister, remains the reserved post of the Shiites.
    Thus, the President of the Republic should cost within 15 days of his election, the candidate chosen by the largest parliamentary bloc to form a government.
