Iranian President Hassan Rowhani on Wednesday congratulated Barham Saleh on his election as president of Iraq, expressing his hope that his term in Iraq would be "a period of increasing development of relations between the two countries and a period that serves the interests of the Iranian and Iraqi peoples."
"I am pleased to express my congratulations on the election of representatives of the Iraqi people for your election as President of the Republic of a neighboring country and brother of Iran," said Barham Salih, the President of the Republic of Iraq.
Barham Salih succeeded on Tuesday after two rounds of parliamentary vote to get 175 votes for the presidency of the republic in Iraq to be the third president after 2003, and the ninth in the history of Iraq.
