The Ministry of Interior has completed all necessary security preparations to conduct the population census on the 20th and 21st of this month, while the Ministry of Planning revealed the participation of 820,000 enumerators. The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Police Affairs and Head of the Supreme Security Committee for the Population Census, Lieutenant General Adel Al-Khalidi, said on the sidelines of a joint press conference between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Planning to Al-Sabah: “The committee has put in place many necessary security plans to conduct the population and housing census
Indicating that, in coordination with the Ministry of Planning, the necessary plans were developed to make the census a success.
For his part, the official spokesman for the ministry, Brigadier General Muqdad Miri, explained to Al-Sabah that “in accordance with a royal order, the Supreme Security Committee for the Population and Housing Census for the year 2024 was formed, noting that the committee decided to impose a curfew on the census days, the 20th and 21st of this month.”
Miri added, "The ban will start at midnight on the 19th and 20th of this month, and the movement of vehicles between governorates and districts will be restricted except for humanitarian cases." It will include all governorates of the country, including the Kurdistan Region, noting that the committee has exempted a number of categories on the two days of the ban, including employees of the Ministry of Planning, statistics centers, and employees of the Ministry of Interior, in addition to journalists and media professionals who carry a badge of authorization from the Joint Operations Command or the Communications and Media Commission, in addition to exempting another category, which is workers in hospitals. He added that emergency ambulances, civil defense, traffic, rescue, and municipal and service departments are exempted from the ban, in addition to exempting workers in embassies, foreign missions, international agencies, and the United Nations from the curfew, noting that there will be flexibility in areas where population diversity is complete and it is possible to give some space for movement.
He explained that "air traffic will be open to everyone, flight reservations will not be affected during the census ban, and trade exchange will continue."
In turn, the head of the Statistics Authority at the Ministry of Planning, Awad Kazim, told Al-Sabah: The ministry will begin launching the initial census next Thursday, the 14th of this month, indicating that the 20th and 21st will witness a general census to obtain information about individuals.
Kazem added that the initial phase will enable the meter to explore the area and take initial information, in addition to introducing the family to the meter, calling on families to cooperate with the meter and to stay in their homes while presenting the national card or any official documents.
In the same context, the official spokesman for the ministry, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, told Al-Sabah that “two stages of the census have been completed and achieved important results: the experimental census stage and the enumeration and numbering stage,” noting that the ministry has provided all logistical preparations, including devices for the census operations, in addition to establishing an information center.
He added that 820,000 counters are participating in the population census, noting that "the curfew is not for security reasons, but rather to carry out the census accurately."
