    Information/Baghdad...
The Shiite political and parliamentary consensus on passing the Personal Status Law did not guarantee that this law would pass to safety, as there are still those who are putting obstacles in the way of passing this law, which has been the subject of many illogical media interpretations and fabrications. The aim of this was not to thwart the draft law, but rather to ensure the continuation of the old personal status laws.
Some political parties have linked the law to other controversial laws, despite the fact that the Personal Status Law is specific to the Shiite component and does not oblige the rest of the components to implement it or conclude marriages according to it, at a time when the Coordination Framework confirmed its intention to extend the legislative term of the House of Representatives in order to pass important controversial laws, most notably personal status, general amnesty, and retirement of the Popular Mobilization Forces.
A member of the parliamentary legal committee, MP Aref Al-Hamami, confirmed to /Al-Maalouma/ that "the House of Representatives went towards extending the legislative term in order to vote on some important laws, most notably the general amnesty and personal status, as the parliamentary legal committee and all political blocs and their representatives agreed to pass the personal status law, especially since the law concerns the Shiite component, which is concerned with this new law, especially since the Sunni component does not have any objection to the law, as it works with Personal Status Law No. 188, in addition to the new law does not affect the Kurds at all and will not include them, as they have their own law in the region that they rely on in their personal status."
On the other hand, the member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Mahma Khalil, told /Al-Maalouma/, “The Personal Status Law and the General Amnesty Law are controversial laws within the Council of Representatives, and there are political and parliamentary efforts to pass the laws during the current legislative session, at a time when some political forces insist on passing the controversial laws in one basket, which is unacceptable.”

Political analyst Issam Al-Fayli believes that “the amnesty, personal status and real estate laws are almost the most controversial in the Iraqi political arena and there are intersections and disagreements related to voting on them. In addition to that, the political forces have not yet held meetings before the parliament sessions, and therefore voting on such laws will be delayed because some components are divided among themselves in approving these laws, in addition to the intersections between the other components.”
On the contrary, MP Mohammed Al-Baldawi, a member of the Sadiqoun parliamentary bloc, confirmed to Al-Maalouma that “the suspension of the legislation to amend the Personal Status Law and the Popular Mobilization Forces’ Retirement and Salaries Law was due to the disagreement between the Kurdish MPs and the MPs of the western provinces regarding the law to return real estate and land to their owners, which negatively affected the completion of the vote on the two laws included on the agenda of the session that was adjourned due to the tensions that occurred,” denying at the same time that there was a deep disagreement regarding the legislation to amend the Personal Status Law and the Popular Mobilization Forces’ Retirement and Salaries Law, suggesting that they would be passed during the upcoming sessions because they enjoy the consensus of the majority of political forces.”
The Coordination Framework had moved towards an agreement between all its parties to extend the legislative term of the House of Representatives, in order to legislate controversial laws after agreeing to pass them under the dome of Parliament, especially after settling the presidency file and choosing Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani as Speaker of the Council.
