President of the Republic: Iraq is fulfilling its obligations under the climate agreement

The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, discussed with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Heydar Aliyev, the close relations between the two countries at various levels, and while he discussed with the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Mafalda Duarte, the efforts made at the global level to confront the phenomenon of climate change, he stressed that Iraq is working to implement its obligations under the climate agreement.
A press statement from the office of the President of the Republic, received by "Al-Sabah", stated that "Rashid met yesterday, Monday, at the headquarters of the United Nations Climate Conference COP 29 in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, with Azerbaijani President Aliyev. During the meeting, the nature of the close relations between Iraq and Azerbaijan at various levels was discussed, and the axes that will be discussed during the United Nations Climate Conference COP 29 were also discussed, as the President of the Republic pointed to the importance of activating the mechanisms of bilateral and international cooperation and coordination in the field of combating climate changes facing the world and reducing their danger."
The meeting discussed a number of regional and global issues, and the two sides stressed the need to intensify international efforts to confront current challenges and work to end them, in a way that consolidates the foundations of international peace and security.
For his part, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his thanks to the President of the Republic for his visit to Azerbaijan and participation in the conference, stressing his country's keenness to strengthen relations with Iraq in various fields.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Health, Saleh Al-Hasnawi, the Head of the Presidency of the Republic, Kamel Al-Dulaimi, and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Water and Marshes, Faleh Al-Khazaali.
On the sidelines of his participation in the United Nations Climate Summit (COP29), the President of the Republic met yesterday, Monday, with the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Mafalda Duarte.
According to a presidential statement received by "Al-Sabah", the meeting discussed the efforts made worldwide to confront the phenomenon of climate change, as the President of the Republic stressed that COP 29 represents an opportunity to intensify work and expand the horizons of joint international cooperation to reduce the danger of this phenomenon on all aspects of life.
The President of the Republic explained the importance of unifying visions in cooperation with the Green Climate Fund as a strategic partner to protect the environment, pointing to the most important measures taken by the government to confront the challenges of climate change, stressing that Iraq is working to implement its obligations under the climate agreement and subsequent international documents, and to address the percentage of greenhouse gas emissions, and to gain flexibility to adapt to the effects of climate change, and the gradual shift towards renewable energy.
For her part, Duarte expressed her happiness at meeting the President of the Republic and his interest in establishing the foundations of a solid strategic partnership with the Green Climate Fund, stressing at the same time the Fund's keenness to cooperate with Iraq and support its projects aimed at confronting the negative effects of climate change on the means of life in it.
