Member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Jawad Al-Yassari, revealed the reason for the Council not holding any session after extending its legislative term for a full month.
The leftist said, “The House of Representatives extended the term of its legislative session with the aim of passing laws that are controversial and that were postponed from previous sessions due to the political conflict over them, most notably (the law to return properties to their owners covered by some decisions of the (dissolved) Revolutionary Command Council, the Personal Status Law, and the General Amnesty Law.”
He added, "Until now, the differences are still ongoing and present regarding these laws, and for this reason the Presidency of the House of Representatives has not set any session yet, as it wants agreement and consensus between the blocs and parties regarding these laws before setting the date of the session and announcing the agenda, and we believe that this matter requires more time to reach understandings."
Members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives confirm that the decision to extend the legislative term of the parliament came to settle the laws that were the subject of fruitless debate during the vacancy of the position of the parliament speaker in the past period.
The Presidency of the House of Representatives decided to extend the legislative session for 30 days, starting from November 9 of this month.
