A telephone conversation between US and Turkish leaders Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which they discussed the withdrawal of US troops from Syria, caused "catastrophic" events, The Washington Post reported.

Trump announced on Wednesday victory in Syria on "dashing," pointing out that the war against him was the only reason for the presence of the US military in the Arab Republic.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the United States had begun withdrawing its troops from Syria, but that did not mean a solution to the international coalition against Da'ash.

Erdogan said Trump had made a decision on the withdrawal of troops from Syria after talking to him, but the White House denied it.

According to the Washington Post, in a telephone conversation between the heads of state on December 14, Erdogan asked, as before, why the United States continues to supply and support the Syrian Kurds, although Trump himself has previously declared victory On the terrorists.

"Do you know what (Syria) is for you, I will leave," Trump said in response.

The newspaper said that this telephone conversation was the cause of "catastrophic events, even by Washington standards during the Trump years." So, according to the newspaper, after this conversation resigned Mattis, who gave him several months to prepare a resolution on Syria.

According to the newspaper, the decision to withdraw troops from the Arab Republic was met with a contradictory reaction. Few officials said that was a promise in Trump, but for most members of Congress, it became a real "disaster" and "surrender to the two forces on Syrian territory - Russia and Iran."

According to the Washington Post, Matisse and other advisers tried to persuade Trump to refuse to withdraw their troops from Syria, but the president said staying there cost "fortune" and asked why he should stay and what the United States would get from him.

Mattis spoke with Trump for 45 minutes, discussing their different views of the world and how to deal with allies and partners. The president of the Pentagon said Trump deserved a defense minister whose views were closer to his own. After their conversation, thank each other, and so ended conversation.

Earlier, CBS reported, quoting sources, that the United States special representative in the coalition against "Da'ash", Brett McGuck, also submitted his resignation because of his disagreement with the withdrawal of US troops from Syria.

On Saturday, Trump said that countries in the region, including Turkey, could be concerned about the remnants of a "preaching" organization in Syria.
