    BAGHDAD - 
    The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday a proposal for parliament to impose taxes on tobacco products and cigarettes. 
    "The Ministry of Health has made great efforts to tax tobacco, in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Society for Combating Tuberculosis and Organ Diseases," said Thamer al-Hilfi, WHO official for chronic diseases and tobacco control. 
    He pointed out that "the ministry raised a proposal to the House of Representatives to impose a tax of 500 dinars per pack of cigarettes, the same amount for each product weighing 20 grams of tobacco, as well as placing warning signs on each packet to enter the country not less than 50 percent of its size, Approval of the proposal during the second half of this year. "
