Nassif: Immunity from all deputies can only be abolished with a constitutional amendment

A member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Alia Nassif, said on Thursday that immunity can not be canceled from the deputies in the parliament as it is a constitutional article where there is no possibility to abolish this article, pointing out that the deputy has the right to lift immunity from himself during the legislative recess while he does not have the right to lift it during the official parliament Only with the approval of two-thirds of the members.
Nassif said in a statement to the information, that "immunity is mentioned in the Constitution Article 63 and who wants to lift the immunity from deputies must abolish this legal article, and that immunity is part of the functional practice of the deputy."
She added, "The MP is exercising his supervisory work and uncovering corruption files based on his immunity, in addition to granting the MP the power to criticize and detect spoilers and address them," noting that "the deputies encouraged the decision of the Federal Court, which stipulated that immunity is not confined to the Dome of the House of Representatives, but It expands to the legislative term of the deputy, after it was granted only to the deputy within the parliament.
Nassif explained that "the MP in the event of an offense and proven corruption against him, it is the right of parliament to abolish and lift immunity from him and hold him accountable judicially," pointing out that "the MP can lift immunity for himself in the legislative holidays of the parliament and in case he asked to lift it during the working period, it must vote On that two-thirds of the members of the Council.
